Astrology Article —The Strategic Use of Inner Vision

Our Libra New Moon represents a shift in personal consciousness that’s expansive and requires us to incorporate a larger perspective. The zodiac sign of Libra is beginning to awaken a new focus of expanded participation  in the world, beyond the scope of what’s strictly only best for personal circumstances.

The specific theme of this year’s New Moon in Libra is a new ability to strategically use your inner vision. Only when we’re able to clearly visualize our inner dreams and ideals can they become truly effective as a way to participate in the world. This is the strategic use of using your inner vision. Before we explore this any further, let’s dive into the nature of Libra to better understand how these energies work.

The Libra Shift in Consciousness

Libra’s energy is quite fascinating to study. This is mainly because of the huge shift that occurs between the signs of Virgo and Libra. We mark this shift at the Fall Equinox, however the significance of the larger shift in consciousness is rarely talked about within astrological circles, so let me breakdown the key elements.

The annual cycle of the astrological year begins in Aries with the Spring Equinox. The first half of the year, from Aries to Virgo, is focused on personal development, while the second half, from Libra to Pisces is focused on group dynamics. Virgo completes the first hemi-cycle of the individual experience that began with Aries. Libra begins the second hemi-cycle which ends with Pisces. This second hemi-cycle is the process in which the individual is completely able to step into participation and integrate oneself into the collective experience.

Libra’s energy leads to an awakening to a larger experience of what it means to participate as an individual. True participation happens without letting go of one’s individuality. This process enables us to expand as individuals within our larger roles in society. It is this balance in the relationship between the collective and the individual that is the deeper meaning of Libra’s theme of balance.

If individuality isn’t fully developed, then when the individual emerges into the group,  the collective will swallow the individual and they will lose their voice and purpose. The shadow of this process of individual participation manifests as simply going along with the group flow and adopting the group think, or the status quo. Individuality becomes lost as the collective dominates.

The healthy Libra shift in consciousness occurs when individuality is preserved and not lost. The main point here is the realization that individuality is the key to understanding how to bring your particular functionality to the world so that you have something to offer the collective, based in your own unique and personalized experience.

The single most important take-away at this New Moon is that Libra’s energy expands one’s personal sense of individuality (Virgo) into a larger context of group participation.

Inner Vision and Clearly Visualizing a Larger Perspective

We’ve covered how Libra’s energy is expanding our awareness of how to participate fully with others as an individual. Now let’s focus on how this ties into the new process of inner vision that we have access to at this New Moon.

The specific energy of this Moon is the ability to strategically use inner vision as a way to access a clear path to the future. What we commonly call ‘visualization’ is akin to this form of inner vision. This type of inner vision is a way of channeling intuition through mental pictures.

These inner visions can either be spontaneous or they can be intentionally directed using your imagination. Because this ability is future oriented, the most effective way to intentionally direct your imagination is toward a trajectory in the future in which you imagine participating in something larger. This New Moon is all about seeing yourself participating as an individual in new and greater ways.

This quality of individuality includes your ability to appreciate your unique ways of thinking and unique gifts that are built on your unique experiences.  Individuality and your appreciation of uniqueness brings a specific sense of purpose that blossoms into something larger in the world. This awareness of individual thinking, sometimes referred to as critical thinking, enables you to use your particular skills in more effective and creative ways.

A clear vision of the future, a future that forms from an inner vision rather than images from the external culture, must be based on how you function as an individual and how you use your creative power in the world. Each of our inner visions must be channeled with as little distortion as possible. One way distortion occurs is when we lose our individuality and adopt the group think and status quo.

Earlier we talked about the shadow of Libra and how an incomplete process of individuation can lead a person to become lost within the collective status quo.  The role of Libra is to bring one’s unique and individual perspective to others in order to strengthen the group and participate in something larger.

True participation within the collective occurs when we are able to understand how to participate using our unique gifts, personal insights, and intuition. This type of individual understanding is not always supported, as outside influences in the world are geared toward conformity rather than individual expression. Inner vision becomes strategic once we realize that our participation needs to be connected to our own true purpose, an individualized purpose rooted in experiences that are unique to our own potentials and circumstances.

Astrology Pattern

We have a group of planets (stellium) in Libra that is activating the overall archetype of this shift in consciousness.

What’s most interesting to me about this chart is the connection of Mars to the stellium. Mars is in Virgo, which places the entire stellium new-phase to Mars. Mars supports transformation through individual expansion and new experiences. In this chart it also represents a new process and a new skill or technique (Virgo) based in individualized excellence that is then brought to the world.

We are still working with our historical Saturn/Pluto conjunction in Capricorn. The shadow of this conjunction is playing out among the collective as authoritarian control over what and how people should think. The spiritual side of this conjunction plays out at the individual level and enables us to clearly see the authoritarian patterns and distortions as they play out.

The South Node directly conjunct Saturn and Pluto is activating our ability to discern what we will choose to leave behind and what has lasting value moving forward. The South Node influence says that it’s important to only bring forward into the future that which is truly useful.

Neptune opposed to Mars will operate in one of two ways, either to expand your individual awareness and connection to vision, or dissolve it into apathy and disinterest, such as not caring about what’s happening in the world, or simply becoming numb to world events.

Jupiter in Sagittarius, T-square to the Mars and Neptune opposition, is working to expand our social awareness in order to help all of us to think independently so that our individual function within society matches more closely the freedoms that Sagittarius supports.

Uranus trine Saturn and inconjunct the New Moon is functioning as an undercurrent of change to help us all to feel the necessity of stepping into participation and making the necessary adjustments to move forward.

Summary

We are at a significant turning point as we move from Virgo into Libra.  Individuality is being stressed more than usual. We are all learning to participate in new ways from the stand point of clearly seeing how and why we are moving forward in life, and what that means for each of us based on the larger view of how we fit into a rapidly changing world. Using new abilities of inner vision will allow you to strategically make decisions and take actions that help you create the circumstances for which your individuality is best suited.
